PALS, in its eleventh year now, was started as a series of motivational lectures given by IIT Alumni in the campuses of various engineering colleges in and around Chennai. The offerings have evolved into the present format based on the feedback from the colleges, and from the changing market needs. The objective has been to enhance the quality of engineering education and making students graduating from these institutions, industry ready. To achieve this, PALS has tapped into the vast pool of expertise available within the IIT alumni community across the corporate, academic and entrepreneurial domains. The year-long program covering Partner Institutions in various cities of Tamil Nadu features engages in events that involve IIT Alumni and Industry experts, which target the students, teachers and management of these institutions.
PALS program is executed by a team of committed volunteers and managed by a high power Governing Board.

Enabling its Partner Institutes to significantly increase the employability of its students, through
- Increasing their awareness of the market in general and of changing career opportunities available to them, including entrepreneurship
- Augmenting their text book knowledge through industry projects, internships and competitions
- Enhancing their skills and knowledge through interactions with IIT, IIT Alumni and industry experts, through various forums, including lectures, seminars, workshops, mentoring sessions, competitions etc.
- Improvement in pedagogy by providing opportunities to faculty via different forums involving IIT, IIT Alumni and industry, to enhance their knowledge and skills
Overall, to enable the Partner Institutes to internalize the various inputs provided throughout the year, and enhance their own processes and working in the right direction.
PALS 360 degree programs
The different events organized are structured to address the needs of students, faculty and administrators of Engineering Education. This program enhances the job opportunities for the students by increasing their awareness of the job market and their practical skills, and makes them think for themselves and take informed decisions in life. Opportunities are created so that the rich and varied experiences of the IIT alumni are shared with the students and faculty of the Partner Institutes. Events are organized so that the faculty members get an opportunity to visit different industries, and also listen to senior people in that industry – along with the students, as well as in programs designed especially for the faculty. Opportunities are provided, where there is ample scope for interactions between faculty members of the Partner Institutes with those of IITs and with industry experts. Competitions are held to bring out the spark inside every student.
Needless to say it is the involvement IIT Alumni and the readiness with which the IIT Madras fraternity comes forward to share its knowledge, expertise and resources our Partner Institutes. The inputs from the faculty coordinators of the Partner Institutes and the enthusiasm of the student participants have helped us to come this far. Improvements on the content, schedule and execution of the programs are continuously done based on the feedback from all the stake holders.
